About EERA

The Eastern Educational Research Association is an organization for educational professionals interested in conducting and disseminating research that improves education for all in both formal and non-formal settings. EERA was created in 1977 and for over 40 years has been one of this country’s successful educational research organizations. EERA is affiliated with the American Educational Research Association.

EERA members meet at an annual conference in February or early March. Members’ research is disseminated through 16 divisions and 22 Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The organization is administered through a Board of Directors elected by the membership. The organization awards an Outstanding Paper Award during the annual Conference along with several other awards, including Emerging Scholar and Service to the Association. EERA also sponsors the publication of the Journal of Research in Education.

Message from the President

Dear EERA Members:

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying another exciting and productive year.

As you read this message, your EERA Board of Directors is preparing for the 2024 Conference, to be held February 8-9 in sunny Clearwater, FL, where we’ll reconnect with fellow members, welcome and connect with new attendees, and celebrate one another’s scholarly accomplishments. Our conference creates an environment where faculty, graduate students, researchers, and practitioners can do what we do best: to learn.

In addition to conference planning, board members are focusing on goals and initiatives supporting the purpose of EERA, which is to promote quality educational research and provide a forum for its dissemination. Our objectives include securing EERA’s future by growing our membership and increasing conference attendance, offering occasions for members to engage with one another throughout the year, and developing and maintaining relationships with educational institutions and sponsors who find value in what we do. Additionally, we persist in our efforts to elevate the conference experience.

Academic organizations like ours face parallel issues like decreased travel resources and increased costs of holding events like our annual conference. While these concerns pose challenges to our group, they also present opportunities to think creatively about the sustainability of EERA. We are all stakeholders and must work as a community to reach our goals. To that end, I invite you to communicate your diverse perspectives and wisdom with us. How can we meet your needs, provide a meaningful conference experience for you, and offer relevant professional development opportunities for members?

I also encourage you to consider supporting EERA by running for a position on the leadership team, reviewing conference proposals, serving as a session chair, nominating members or yourself for awards, or joining the Journal of Research in Education (JRE) review team.

In closing, I want to formally acknowledge the EERA Board Members, a committed group of volunteers who make decisions with you in mind and genuinely want to be responsive to your needs. It is an honor to work with these individuals.

Thank you for being a part of EERA, and I’ll see you in Clearwater!

Kenda
